In art, there must be a million ways to represent a person….

A caricature is broadly defined as a humorous illustration that exaggerates or distorts the basic essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness. Or put another way, it’s like a cartoon that looks like someone.
And they aren’t always funny.
YOUR Caricatures & Pencil Portraits
The galleries on my sidebar provide a sampling of my past work, stuff I did when I remembered to take pictures or scan my work. Pretty much everything here is in a private collection somewhere. If you want to see my newest work, especially the latest caricatures and drawings with all the latest happenings, be sure to visit my art blog - You can have a pencil portrait or caricature done for super-cheap plus shipping cost if you send in a good FACE picture and some information about what you’d like to have. These can be done more realistically, or more cartoon-like. (The big guys charge fifty dollars or more for the same service). The toons are the most fun, but you get to decide. And you can pay through PayPal. Use my contact form to get the ball rolling.
POLITICAL Caricatures and Pencil Portraits
For your blog, your book, your web page - get a caricature or pencil portrait of your favorite political figure, candidate or other famous person about which you’d care to rant. For digital-only artwork (sent to you via e-mail attachment): Political/Celebrity line drawings: $10 - Color caricatures: $20 - Caricature with comic FULL BODY view: $40
Political caricatures and pencil portraits usually don’t require that you send a picture unless you want me to do a local politician or otherwise obscure character. Full body views in caricature styles may require a detailed description of what you’re looking for. Give a good description of what you want: I will do my best to interpret your request but because my rates are so low all sales are final.
I’m basically non-partisan about political caricatures. I particularly enjoy doing caricatures that can be taken more than one way, such as The Commander Guy - but I will make anyone look silly or fun, whatever you like. The only thing I won’t do is imply that someone is committing a serious crime. I want my caricatures and cartoons to be fun, not a cause of a libel action. See more examples in the Caricature section of the art blog.
All quoted prices are per person, so keep that in mind if you want a more complicated ‘toon with multiple faces - this is more in the arena of political cartooning. Which I also do, but it costs a bit more.

Location, Location…
Events, parties and fairs - Again, it depends on what you want, but most caricature artists charge a flat hourly rate. I noticed the rates in Oregon run around $140/hour for the typical name guy.. with a two-hour minimum plus travel expenses. I can’t do that. For one thing, I’m not as fast as they are! The name guys say they can do 10 or more caricatures an hour for your guests’ entertainment. I won’t be that fast. Also, I’m probably not as good as they are - but then you aren’t paying $280 plus (which is what they charge), are you? Depending on the event and what you want, I can give you a deal that is less than half the big guys’ fees.
And finally, there are fairs and special events where people rent-booth space to do their thing. I sometimes like to do these too, so be sure to contact me if you have an Oregon-area show etc.
Pet Caricature Cartoons
I love cats, it’s a fact. I’ve been doing my own little rescue operation for feral
cats and dumped kittens of all kinds. To help feed them all, I started doing
cartoons of them and putting them on shirts. Then I started doing caricature
cartoons of other people’s cats. Now it is a side business to benefit the ferals.
